Teaching

BIOL 692H: Senior Honors Thesis

Undergraduate course, UNC-CH, Biology Department, 2025

The honors thesis is the culmination of high-quality research performed in the preceding semester(s) of undergraduate study. Students learn techniques for writing their research into a formal thesis and as a formal talk. Successful completion of the written thesis and talk can earn students Honors or Highest Honors.

BIOL 105L: Biology Research Skills

Undergraduate course, UNC-CH, Biology Department, 2025

Course with lab and lecture to teach biology majors basic research skills with a variety applications. Students also learn about various aspects of research such as finding a lab, reading literature, funding, research types, and more.

BIOL 227L: Communicating Genome Science

Undergraduate course, UNC-CH, Biology Department, 2025

Science communication and bioinformatics course where students participate in the research done by the Genomics Education Partnership, while practicing techniques in science communication primarily to non-STEM audiences. This course is designed for students who have at least taken an introductory biology course and are interested in learning more molecular biology, being involved in research, and practicing science communication.

Guest Lectures

Undergraduate course, UNC-CH, Biology Department, 2023

Guest lectures delivered in various undergraduate biology courses at UNC Chapel Hill. The goal of these lectures is to enhance students’ understanding of complex biological concepts and to provide real-world applications of the material covered in their courses.

BIOS 4100: Evolutionary Genomics and Disease

Undergraduate course, UNCP, Biology Department, 2022

BIOS 4100 is designed to familiarize students with modern molecular biological concepts and techniques. Evolution, molecular biology, and disease are all integrated aspects of the course and can be examined using a broad set of techniques called “genomics”. Students will be learning from lectures and hand’s-on activities, as well as contributing to the Genomics Education Partnership—an organization that uses student investigations to move real research forward. These skills empower students to form a foundation for future scientific exploration and become educated consumers of science. Students will also gain fundamental general biology knowledge necessary to build upon for advanced study in biological sciences in future courses and careers.

BIO 1000: Principles of Biology

Undergraduate course, UNCP, Biology Department, 2022

BIO1000 is designed to introduce students to biological concepts from a modern and classical perspective, and to equip students with the tools necessary to begin critical analysis of biology. These skills empower majors and non-majors to form a foundation for future scientific exploration and become educated consumers of science. Students will also gain fundamental general biology knowledge necessary to build upon for advanced study in biological sciences in future courses and careers.

Biochem 551: Biochemical Methods

Undergraduate course, UW Madison, Biochemistry Department, 2018

Biochem 551 serves as an introduction to modern biochemical laboratory techniques and current biochemical literature for advanced biochemistry majors. Students attend a lab, lecture, and seminar each week. The topics covered in the lecture parallel the work in the lab, while the seminars focus on specific themes relevant to biochemistry research.
